Apple’s iOS and watchOS have a noise level measurement feature in addition to improved data privacy and protection. The functionality helps consumers to monitor both the ambient noise level and the decibel levels of the earphones they are wearing.
On World Hearing Day, we’ll teach you how to keep track of noise levels in your area and decide if they’re under reasonable limits.
Users may also allow reminders if their music is being played too loudly.
How to use your iPhone or iPad to monitor the noise level of your surroundings
The Hearing Protection feature on the iPhone and iPad will monitor noise levels in your environment and, depending on WHO safety listening rules, notifies users when they hit the 7-day limit and lowers the volume.
Take these guidelines to assess the amount of noise in your environment:
- On your iPhone or iPad, launch the Fitness app.
- Choose an alternative. Observation
- Pick Ambient Sound Settings from the drop-down menu.
This will provide you with full information about the amount of noise in your immediate environment. If you see an Ok emblem in green, the noise level in your environment is great and below the fixed limit.
This choice would also provide you with a comprehensive overview of the nearby ambient noise levels on a regular, weekly, and annual basis. It also measures the noise level from yesterday to today, or from the previous month to the new month, among other items.
You can keep track of the noise level with the Noise app on Apple Watch, and it will warn you if it exceeds the appropriate range.
However, there are a few things you should consider first:
- Listening time depends upon the decibel level at which you are listening to music or watching a movie.
- Around 5 hours and 30 minutes a day at 80 decibels will cause temporary hearing loss. At this stage, the weekly limit is 40 hours.
- 85 decibels: Exposure to this amount for 1 hour and 45 minutes a day will cause temporary hearing loss. At this amount, the weekly limit is about 12 hours and 30 minutes.
- 90 decibels: Exposure to this amount for 30 minutes a day will cause temporary hearing loss. At this amount, the weekly limit is 4 hours.
- 95 decibels: Listening to this amount for only 10 minutes a day will cause temporary hearing loss. At this amount, the weekly limit is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Even a few minutes per day at 100 decibels will cause temporary hearing loss. At this amount, the weekly limit is about 20 minutes.
How to Allow Apple Watch Noise Notifications
Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Then go to the My Watch tab and pick Noise. Select a decibel level by pressing Noise Threshold.
Notifications can also be modified directly from your Apple Watch. Go to Noise in the Settings menu.
