Waving to your Facebook buddies has already become a simple courtesy gesture. It’s exactly the same as saying “Hi!” or greeting someone in some other manner. To put it another way, this function would never become obsolete.
The unfortunate thing is that the most recent update removed the opportunity to wave to anyone without effort. So, let’s learn how to wave on Facebook Messenger in 2021 so you’ll still have something to chat about!Wave On Facebook Messenger App Awards: 6 Reasons Why They Don’t Work & What You Can Do About It

Is There a Button That Waves?
For the time being, the FB Messenger app does not have a waving button. To be frank, the buttons used to be there, but they were removed due to UI redesign. The Discover segment was also removed during the upgrade, which took place in spring 2020.
So, because we can’t wave on Facebook the easy way right now, let’s find out how to do it at all, shall we?
An Autonomous Wave
Because of this subject, the first thing that needs to be said is that each time you add a new contact on Facebook and import it into Messenger, you will receive one auto wave. When you do that, a new dialogue will automatically form between you two, regardless of whether someone has to send the message or not.
When you load this conversation, you’ll get a system text saying that your new buddy is waving. You’ll be able to dangle back at this stage by taping on a pop-up sign.
This, though, only works once and only with new friends. If you want to say hello to old friends, follow the instructions mentioned below.
Greeting Engaged Mates
If the person you want to greet is currently active on the Messenger app, you can do so with little effort.
To take it through the app, follow these steps:
- Open the Messenger application.
- At the bottom of the list, pat on the People pin.
- Click the Active section to see all of the people who are actually online.
- Each person’s username will be followed by a plane hand symbol.
- Simply tap the button, and your friend will receive your greeting and be able to wave back.
- Waving Across The Internet
If you are unable to use the Messenger app to connect with others, you can still use the Facebook web.
To be frank, greeting someone via the web version might be easier than greeting someone via a smartphone app. This is due to the fact that you do not need to wait for the individual to become engaged.Wave On Facebook Messenger App Doesn’t Have To Be Hard. - Once you’ve done that, press the Direct Wave pin that will appear.
How to Return Someone’s Wave
It’s likely that you’ll get a wave from a friend at some point. It’s more likely to happen if anyone adds you to their friends list or sends you a wave first.
There is a proper way to wave back and be courteous:
- Whether it’s via a mobile app or a website, start a discussion.
- A yellow hand will wave to you with the following message and a Tap to wave back icon near it.
- When you click the hand symbol, your wave will be returned to your friend.
How to Reverse The Wave
If you accidentally sent the wave or actually want to take it back for some reason, don’t worry, there’s a solution.
All you have to do now is load the chat with the person you saluted by mistake. Then, click and hold the wave you want to return for a few seconds.
